We chose to go to Rodeo, New Mexico because the RV park was cheap and we had not been to this part of New Mexico. As we were driving there we started wondering if the rv park was a dump. We were driving though desert, far from any city and the road was one step above dirt. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised. The park has huge sites. Each on has 1/4 of an acre. They are all pull through's that are 200 feet long. It has 50 electric and it was well kept up and laid out.
We went exploring and we headed off to the Chiricahua Mountains. We drove through the mountains. A good portion of the trip was dirt road. After 20 miles of washboard, hilly, narrow dirt road we ended up at Chiricahua National Monument. The rocks here are amazing. They are in columns and many are balanced. On the way back by different roads, we ended up going by Fort Bowie National Historic site. It was another 20 miles of dirt road. You were then supposed to walk 1.5 miles to the site. We took a Handicap route by truck and then only had to walk 500 feet. This fort was built during the Civil War and later used in the war against the Chiricahua Apaches. It ended up with the surrender of Geronimo.
As we almost got back to the rv park we stoped at Granite Top Ghost Town.
