Travel Day! Oklahoma City to Topeka
Apr 24, 2009
|Marilyn & I were up early this morning. I was still tired because I didn’t sleep all that well. I have been reading a book written by Vince Flynn, called “Protect and Defend”.
It is a thriller with very up to date scenarios, with Israel destroying the Iranian nuclear plant, and Iran blaming both the USA and Israel.
I was trying to finish the book before going to sleep and I read until nearly 11:30 PM. Still not finished, I put the book down and tried to go to sleep. The problem was that the book is very “edge of your seat” and I kept thinking about it, which kept me awake for another hour or so.
Up at 6:00 AM, I wished I had read from one of Ted Gray’s books instead. Then I could have gone to sleep with a smile instead of anxiety.
It took the third cup of coffee to make me feel ready for the day. LOL
We left the RV Resort at 7:45 and headed north on I-35, passing the turnoff to Enid about one hour later. We were thinking of our friends, Ralph & Rosalie as we passed that turnoff.
We stopped for fuel and an early lunch, just east of Wichita, Kansas.
We still feel a closeness to Wichita, having lived there for nearly eight years. We know so many good people there, from neighbors to pilots and friends I worked with. We miss all of them and think of them often.
We then continued north to Topeka.
By 2:00 PM we were parked and all set up. It is hot here with a fairly high humidity.
We aren’t used to this level of heat mixed with the humidity.
I must say though, that it was very nice to see green trees again. We have seen desert, rocks, and cactus for a long time now. We were also a bit tired of breathing dust and sand. It will be nice to get back to Texas when that time comes, but for now, we are happy to be getting close to “home”.
We turned the A/C on this afternoon and I began cooking dinner. I have put together a mixture of sautéed onions, garlic, peas, mushrooms, and some sliced pork loin. I’ll let you know how it tastes
Later…..Hey, the dinner tastes really good! We can have this again!
Marilyn & I plan to watch a movie that we haven’t yet seen, and get a good night of sleep.
We have a fun event planned for tomorrow but you never know what adventures tomorrow might have in store…..
