This afternoon I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Geck. The news was mixed. X-rays revealed that the fractured T3 vertebra is about the same as at the last visit – neither better nor worse. Dr. Geck said that the fracture is what is causing the pain in my shoulder blade area. He is not overly concerned about the pain because it is not dangerous. He said that he could extend the rods above the fracture; however, there is the possibility that the vertebra that then would be at the top of that extension would collapse. That possibility of another collapse is what influenced my decision to not have a third surgery. He said that he will continue to monitor the situation and wants me to return in four months.
