We are visiting the little laid-back mountain town of Rico today. The summertime population is 500, with only 200 in the winter. :-) I was actually searching for information about Lizard Pass when I read about Rico. I knew I had to visit after reading about it online. I even saw a video on Youtube showing it covered with snow. They have over 60 miles of snowmobiling trails in the area. I would love to be here for the winter and own a snowmobile.
Many historic buildings beckon to the history buff, some remaining from the mining boom of the 1880's. After viewing the awesome Lizard Head peak from Rico, we know we will be driving the back road tour in this area. It is breathtakingly beautiful and a place not to be missed if you are in the area. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
Check back later for more from Colorado.
