|Tue, 28 Aug: Back on the road again after twelve days of vegging in Kettle Falls, WA. As always, it is feels good to hear the Cummins rumbling in the back and feel the motion of Carpe on the road.
Today's journey was relatively short, some 120 miles or so from Kettle Falls to Sagle (just south of Sandpoint), Idaho. First stop was at a Safeway in Colville for $100 worth of diesel. We needed some "insurance" to ensure we'd make it to Idaho where fuel is much less expensive (state fuel taxes do matter).
Then US 395 south to connect with US 2 east into Idaho and Sandpoint. Just east of Priest River on US 2 we rounded a corner and saw three bears run across the highway about 500 meters ahead of us. Even though Sandi had her Nikon on her lap we were both so surprised that she forgot to take any pix. The bears ran down a steep embankment and we couldn't get any pix of them. What a nice surprise.
At Sandpoint we switched to US 95 south for a few miles to Sagle where there is a Travel Amerida truck plaza with diesel 30¢/gallon less than in Colville. Since we added just short of 75 gallons that's a significant difference. While at the TA we also topped off our propane tank.
Then, after replenishing Carpe's "vitals", we secured a spot in the TA RV park which behind the travel plaza has very nice full hookup sites at a reasonable price. We'll be here until Thursday when we'll backtrack to Priest River and then north to Priest Lake for the Labor Day weekend.
