Crane in the morning

Sunset

We moved out of Treetops on Memorial Day and parked in front of Amanda's house overnight, then moved on May 29th to Lake Bardwell, just to the west of Ennis,TX at the High View CoE park. We've stayed out here many times when we were still working as it was close enough to get to on a Friday night and still have some night left over.

We're right on the lake and we sure do like it. Jeff took a picture of one of the cranes who come in every morning to fish.

Crane in the morning
I woke up to see the sunrise one morning (right outside our bedroom window) and saw about 13 cranes along the shore. The water is way up from the last time we were here since practically all of May has had rain. One of the cranes was walking along the edge when suddenly he slipped off the lip and hit the drop off where the water line is usually. He went down in a welter of flashing wings, righted himself and then went on as if to say, "I meant to do that."

We've had storms almost every day. It will be a beautiful clear sky, then we'll start seeing black clouds on the horizon, the wind will get up and suddenly pelting rain and thunder. Madison runs for the dog hole. It will blow over and go back to beautiful blue skies again. Here's a lovely sunset

. We're NOT complaining. The rain is keeping the temperature down and we remember all too well what Texas is like in June.

We've had a chance to reconnect with our friends here. We visited with our former neighbor Joan who's recovering from cancer surgery, got to have dinner with my good teacher friend Wanda who's just retired from teaching, and got to see the debut of the new Lone Star Murder Mystery show "Mein Shaft" at the Gaylord.

Madeleine had her 8th birthday and celebrated with 8 other 8 year olds with a pool party. Being completely senile, I left the camera at the trailer and therefore have NO picture of any of it. Amanda's camera is on the fritz and the only pictures that were taken were on her camera phone. She was precious as usual.

I left out an interesting thing that happened when we were on the road to Clovis, NM. I had evidently been out of cell phone range, then gotten back in for my message signal began to beep. I checked the message and it was Central Casting in LA (although we had sent them a letter to put ourselves inactive until next year.) They had picture picked me to work as Shirley McClaine's double on a film she's shooting and wanted me to come in right away for a director interview and wardrobe. Man, was I unhappy to have to call them back and turn that down! It would have been a union pay job and I probably would have enough days to get my Screen Actor's Guild card out of it. I then got two more calls from Central on that same day for work. Considering that they only call you 5% of the time, that was pretty good.

Jeff's feet which had really begun to hurt him during the "Caveman" shoot (which has been picked up and will air Sept. 1 on ABC), were going downhill fast, so he scheduled a Dr appointment at the Dallas VA. They took Xrays and diagnosed Charcot's Joint which is a diabetic related foot condition. His primary care guy set up for an orthopedic and podiatrist appointment but they couldn't get him in until July 23rd! Luckily for him, he already has a podiatrist appointment set up at Great Lakes VA on June 18th, so we are heading straight there on the 10th when we leave Bardwell.

Tuesday, the grandkids will be coming out to visit us while Amanda and Robert take a trip to Vegas.
