Since half of the Crater Lake rim drive was closed due to construction yesterday, we returned to see what we had missed. As we drove toward the park, a layer of clouds hovered over the mountaintops on an otherwise clear day. As we started the rim drive on the west side of the lake, the road rose into those clouds and the temperature plummeted. It was just above freezing, the road was wet/icy? and we couldn't see a thing. The fresh pavement was great, but the view nonexistent. When we found a spot to turn around, we started the drive counterclockwise. This put us on the east side of the crater where there were no clouds and the views were glorious once again. A few hours later when we finally returned to the start point, the clouds had cleared and we left full satisfied that we had seen it all. Once again we are grateful that we have the time to take our time and make the most of the beautiful places we are visiting.
