We left Cripple Creek early this morning, we had quite a drive ahead of us. We stopped in the Buena Vista area and viewed the Collegiate Peaks Overlook. This is a “WOWSER” area of Colorado with some of the highest mountains in the state.
The Collegiate Peaks (or Collegiate Range) is a name given to a section of the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains located in central Colorado. This area is also the headwaters of the Arkansas River.
The Collegiate Peaks include some of the highest mountains in the Rockies. The section is so named because several of the mountains are named for prominent universities and colleges, including Mt. Harvard, Mt. Oxford, Mt. Yale, Mt. Princeton and Mt. Columbia. We will definitely be returning for more visits to this incredible area.
We also stopped for coffee at the top of Monarch Pass. Another “WOWSER” area that is a must see. We were surprised to see a lot of campgrounds in this area too, it was quite a climb in the car, it will be a very interesting drive if we decide to take the RV over this one. We are back home and will be planning our next move at the end of the month. Check back later for more from Colorado.
