We visited the beautiful Chipeta Lake Wildlife area today and walked the awesome paths around the lake, we had a great picnic and just enjoyed this beautiful area. Jerry has not purchased a fishing license for Colorado yet....but he may have to after seeing so many great places to fish. :-)
The lake isn't large, but every year it's stocked with rainbow trout, bass, bluegill, sunfish and sometimes catfish. Chipeta Lake State Wildlife Area covers 23 acres just south of Montrose. River access, along the Uncompahgre River, is on the east side of the lake for those that want a bit more challenging fishing experience. Brown and rainbow trout are common in the river.
This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the wildlife. The lake is full of ducks and other wildlife not to mention hundreds of birds to watch. Another great day in Colorado, check back later for more.
