We have been hoping for snow in Buena Vista for days, the weather keeps saying we have a 30% chance, but we only got a few flakes. As many of our readers know, we love snow.
Being from Florida we rarely got to see it. Well, we read that Vail, Colorado was getting a few inches today and tomorrow, so we decided to go where the snow was.:-) We drove the seventy five miles and visited for a day, it was awesome! By the time we reached Hoosier Pass the snow started falling. It got so hard at times we could hardly see the road ahead, very exciting for us. This was our first trip to Vail, we were not disappointed, it is incredible. We are already planning a return trip.
Our first stop was at the huge welcome center, we asked directions to the “Main Street” area, we were told not to expect a normal town with a main street. This whole town is set up for skiing. It is divided into villages that have ski lifts right from the shopping areas. You can get a lift to one of the mountains for around $20. They have several restaurants to choose from at the top. We are planning a gondola ride to the top and lunch for our next visit. The aspen trees in the area are on “fire”. I could not stop taking pictures of the trees. Imagine seeing all the color from the top of the mountain, stay tuned to our next Vail update for pictures from the top. :-)
Today we just enjoyed riding and looking around town, getting the feel of the area before parking and exploring Vail Village. Vail Village is an enchanting pedestrian village with heated walkways, patterned after the charm and elegance of legendary Zermatt in the Swiss Alps. Cozy, without cars, the awesome mountain deployed in front as you walk leisurely down the quaint cobble stone streets. We loved the covered bridge and even made our first snow man of the season. The snow was coming down the whole time we walked around the village. We had a blast. The shopping was fantastic, they have everything from cheap souvenirs to high priced fur coats. I told Jerry “I want one”, but he didn’t listen. haha
Please remember all pictures were taken with snow falling. Please excuse the spots and foggy view of some, I am adding them anyway because we want to look at them over and over. It was a “WOWSER” day for us, one we will remember forever. Another great day in Colorado, check back later for more.
