We finally had a beautiful, sunny day to go out for more birding. The weather has been horrible for the last week. A huge cold front moved in with rain and freezing temperatures and strong winds too.
It felt great to get out and do some more birding at the Padre Island Birding Center. We had hopes of seeing some of the Monarch butterflies migrating through too, but most of them had moved on to Mexico. We took advantage of the sun and walked down all the boardwalks to the bird blinds and spent hours visiting.
We saw all the common birds for the area and some special ones too. The permanent residents are Brown Pelican, White Ibis, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, Red-winged Blackbirds, Roseate Spoonbill, Reddish Egret, Clapper Rail, Willet, Mottled Duck, Common Gallinule, Black-necked Stilt, and we even saw a huge alligator. :-) We also spotted a White Faced Ibis, a new bird for my list. I am adding pictures of the best shots I could get, some of the birds were quite a distance away. It was another awesome day spent on Padre Island, check back later for more.
