Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Heading east this morning on Hwy 50, they've recently repaved the road...

It's rugged terrain in some parts...

And open ranchland in other areas...

We've been climbing forever!

Blue Mesa Reservoir, I'll post separate pics of it...

We're only 9 miles from Gunnison now...

Onyx is glad we've arrived!

Harold & Jeanette are parked right next to us...

A pretty sunset this evening....

Today we traveled Highway 50 east approximately 75 miles from Centennial Park in Montrose to Palisades Rv Park in Gunnison. Our friends Harold & Jeanette and Gary & Arline will be staying here for the next couple of months, & since it was pretty much on our way to South Dakota, we stopped to visit them & this area for 2 nights. It was quite a pull up the Colorado mountain & we had to pull off to the side twice to cool off. This is only the second mountain pull we've ever overheated, the first being the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. We cooled off very quickly & were back on the road, arriving with no problems fortunately. Gunnison is surrounded by some of nature’s most gorgeous scenery. Rolling and churning trout streams, clear mountain lakes, thick fir woodlands and striking granite peaks sitting high above the timberline.

We chatted for a couple of minutes before setting up and decided that the six of us would drive 35 miles into Crested Butte for dinner this evening. We made a reservation for 5:30pm and that gave us plenty of time to finish our chores & wash the dust off. We had a nice meal & a good time strolling around the little town of Crested Butte but I'll cover more on that later....
