Our trip from Tucumcari, NM to Canute, OK covered 267 miles across the Texas panhandle and 50 miles into Oklahoma. With the exception of a construction riddled Amarillo and an increasing strong southerly wind, the drive was a mostly monotonous 4.5 hour drive along highway we have taken numerous times in the last 10 years. There are now numerous wind farms between Amarillo and the TX/OK border with one of them covering about 16 miles of I-40 and I don't know how many miles north of the highway. It is huge and must have at least a thousand windmills.
We are not really sure where we are! The campground is the Elk City/Clinton KOA because it is about halfway between Elk City and Clinton, OK. The campground literature gives a Foss, OK address as it is about halfway between Foss and Canute, OK. Yet Bing Maps says we are in Canute, OK whereas Google Maps says we are in Foss. You may have noticed I alternated the captions in the trip pictures between the two!!!
This is the best of the four KOAs we have stayed this trip. This one even has grass and trees! We have a 50 amp full hookup pull-through with good Verizon though the satellite took a little work to acquire through the trees.
We are spending today relaxing and enjoying college football before our trip into Norman, OK tomorrow and a one week stay to visit relatives.
