Our first port of call was today in the little town of Skagway, the begining of our journey down the Inside Passage. Skagway is also known as the gateway to the Yukon and where the Alaskan gold rush began. There might be a little fishing business going on in town, but otherwise the entire economy of Skagway is tourism. Three cruise ships were in port the day we were there, so Skagway serves up the Alaskan frontier in style. Some of our group boarded the White Pass - Yukon Railroad and traveled up into the Yukon Territory of Canada to White Pass and Caribou Crossing. Others enjoyed a salmon bake at Liarsville, walked across a suspension bridge, visited a musher's camp with sled dogs, and we don't know what some of them did at the Red Onion Saloon and Bordello! Joella even walked on a glacier! We all enjoyed getting together at dinner and sharing the details of our day in Skagway.
