We arrived in Indiana after spending several days stuck in the rain on the Ohio Turnpike. Found a rest area that had electricity (so cool!) and a food court so we were golden. We spent a couple of days just hunkered down inside the camper. We had food and water and heat so it was actually quite a nice respite from traveling, traveling, traveling.
We stayed at our first KOA in Shipshewana. The campground was fair in the amenities, but Soleil got to pet a resident goat to her heart's content and we all got to try out "banana bikes." They were quite a blast... low to the ground, three wheels, and you steer by leaning side to side. Rather comical I must say.
In Amish country, we had the best donuts ever... caramel cinnamon (Rise N Roll Bakery), the best onion cheese, and great down-home cooking at the Blue Gate. I guess we just ate our way through town that week.
We also checked out the Menno-Hof Museum and learned about the Mennonite, Hutterite, and Amish communities. We all enjoyed learning about living in communities of families and all that it takes to work on a farm.
