Genus Insecta, subclass Pterygota took an enormous hit today. I (or more accurately, the Mothership) killed about 6,473 specimens, plus or minus two, on our 317 mile windy trip from Canyon Lake to Fort Stockton. I guess a 100 square foot object moving at 60 mph is a formidable obstacle to their normal activities. It wouldn't be so bad if this particular homo sapiens wasn't responsible for removing the evidence and making it look like nothing ever happened!
We are staying at Comanche Land RV Park for tonight as a way station before going on into Big Bend tomorrow. We have full hookups with 50 amps and even cable though we have great satellite reception so will not hook up the cable. Other than that it is a parking lot but does beat Walmart! Verizon reception is good though we will not have it at all while at Big Bend. It is very windy - so much so that we had to put the driver side slides in to make sure the slide awnings were not damaged. Tomorrow's trip is only about 120 miles so hopefully we will get there in time to visit the visitor center so we can plan for the next couple of days. Hopefully we will have WiFi there so we can post the next blog entry on the 17th. If not we will when we get to Carlsbad, NM.
