We took it a little easier today, after so many trails and so much exploring, we were ready for a calmer day. We did a bit of shopping at Walker Drug and General Store. This is not your normal drug store, it has just about everything you can think of. It’s a fun store to shop in, it seems to go on forever. After shopping we went birding in a new area right behind the shopping area. It has a little brook running through town and we were told it was loaded with birds, but we didn’t see the ones I am searching for.
We decided to go back to the Moon Flower Canyon area and look for birds. A birding lady at the visitor center told us people are seeing the Canyon Wren I am looking for. From Kane Creek Road southwest of Moab, the pullout, campground and picnic area at Moon Flower Canyon offers an excellent birding spot. The trail runs through riparian vegetation with some sagebrush uplands.
Peregrine Falcon and Golden Eagles have been seen in this popular hiking area, but more likely to be seen are Canyon Wren, Rock Wren, Bushtit, and many warblers. I did see a lot of them, but not the wren I am looking for, maybe next time. :-) It is such a beautiful place, I just sat under a gorgeous tree and relaxed and watched birds with my binoculars. Another great day in Moab, check back later for more.
