Day 2 of our tour in Mexico
Mar 8, 2009
|After what was pretty much a sleepless night we had showered and dressed for the day by 6:00 AM.
The Hotel was very nice but there were three weddings and a tremendous amount of partying all night long. It didn’t get quiet until 4:45 AM.
Marilyn & I walked on the now deserted streets for about half an hour.
Breakfast was served to us beginning at 7:00 and we enjoyed our meal with the company of Ted & Sue.
We were quite happy to see that Ted is feeling much better.
After breakfast, Mario, our guide, led us on a walk around the historic district, where we saw seven churches within a short time. The oldest church we saw, was built in the 1600’s.
It was about 9:30 when we finally pulled out and were back on the road, heading south.
We stopped in Queretaro, where we explored the “Convento de la Cruz” or Convent of the Cross. Construction on this convent was begun in 1682.
One of the most interesting things we saw here was the Roman style aquaducts. I have pictures to post for you.
We drove through the little village of Ocampo, which is near the Monarch Butterfly sanctuary. We knew we would see this place again tomorrow morning.
We spent the evening at the Villa Monarca Inn near Zitacuaro.
They provided an evening meal for us and we were quite late getting to bed. Tomorrow we visit the butterfly sanctuary. We just can’t wait to see what adventures tomorrow has in store…..
P.S. Pictures will be posted when we have reliable internet service. Be sure to check back.
