Running through the Bayou17 October - I drove through the Louisiana wetlands on top of pillars. There’s about 20 miles of I-10 that cross the Atchafalaya Basin, the largest swamp in the USA, built on support columns. This huge wetlands/delta area is actually a combination of swamps, marshes, and bayous, consisting of over a half of million acres of bottomland hardwood forest. It’s home to many swamp creatures, including the Louisiana black bear, the American alligator, wild hogs, skunks, and several species of snakes. It’s not a place I’d wanna get lost in. I’m not sure if this is the place Roy and Linda sang about or not but, the only water I saw was brown to blackish, however the sky was a brilliant blue. I, along with many other RVers, spent the night at the WalMart in Breaux Bridge.
