Deer on road

We left Williams on Wednesday and took the short trip up to the Grand Canyon. We camped at Mather Campground inside the canyon - boondocking - meaning no power or water hookups, but we have our wonder generator and the good sense to pick a campsite close enough to a water hook-up so that all we have to do is run the water hoses to water up. The sites are large and beautiful

, and it is so peaceful. The air smells great too.

We took the free shuttle that they run round the rim, and our first trip was to the visitor center. We then walked from there to Mather Point. The sun was out today, so the pictures are much different.

. Every time you change positions you can see new vistas , but this one is my favorite .

Coming back on the shuttle, we saw a deer on the road

which was our first sighting of wild life other than the ravens. The ravens are ENORMOUS. They're as big as chickens, and they hang around the water faucet close to the trailer. We put Madison's stainless steel water bowl outside and the ravens liked it so much that they tried to pick it up. We found it tumped over and moved several times before we figured out that it was the ravens who were moving it.

While staying inside on Friday because the wind was so blustery, Jeff installed our inverter which means we can watch the TV, DVD etc. without running the generator. This is good because the generator hours at the Canyon require that we turn it on only from 8-10 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. With the inverter, we can watch a movie or TV later into the evening. Life is good.
