Lyn & Joanne's RV Adventure to Alaska travel blog

Jade City Parking Lot

Today, we left our campsite at Junction 37 about 8:30am to travel about 200 miles to Iskut, BC. Today we travel the Cassiar Highway which is reputed to have unmatchable scenery in some areas although the road is not the best. Along the way we saw a 2-3 year old Black Bear, and a family of Dall sheep. We stopped at "Jade City", where they sell a lot of Jade items. Most(+90%) of the worlds Jade is mined within 90 miles of Jade city. Joanne bought some small things as a souvenir, and proceeded on our way. We had lunch in the camper along the way and got to the campground, Mountain Shadows RV Park about 2:30pm. We set up, showered and made pour way to a 4:00pm briefing for our trip to Stewart, BC tomorrow and the end of the formal part of our trip. We spent the rest of the afternoon updating the blog, but we cannot upload pictures as that would shut down the Internet service here . We did do some research on Joanne's infection and found that, thanks to one of the gals in the group, that it is very similar to "Hogweed" found in the lower 48. It seems that Alaska has a plethora of what is called "Cow Parsnips" up here and is very bad when encountered and the state is 90% covered with this vile stuff. We got some more tips on treatment and are using all we can get over the counter. Her ankle is quite swollen, the red blotch stings and itches and it seems to be spreading. I think I have some spots also. No cell phone service here either.. It is quite in the "boonies"! It is a beautiful campground, and it is "For Sale", but not for us to consider. Mountains all around. quite beautiful. Having dinner in the camper, walk around a bit, and just rest up for tomorrow's drive of about 195 miles where we have quite a bit of activity, for 2 days, before we part company with all these folks. Pictures will be updated when I have a decent Internet connection. Maybe in Stewart, BC
