On Monday, November 19th, 2007, we got the house closed up and we moved into the motorhome for the night so we could head out Tuesday morning. We were getting out of Dodge just in time, since the cold weather had started to come on in a serious way. The water had frozen in the house pipes at 3AM Monday morning, so we had to get them thawed before the plumber came to shut everything down Monday night. (We use the plumber because of the radon water filter system - it takes several guys to do this.) Anyway, we were pretty cozy in the RV (as opposed to some of the other RVs we've had). We got out of the driveway without incident - it had been rebuilt in the late spring to prevent a repeat of the incident we had in the spring when we came home. We had planned to have the rear-end oil checked at Dysart's Truck Stop in Bangor on our way out, but it turned out we also needed a new alternator - not good! Dysart's was great, however - they sent us to a truck repair place nearby where they fixed us up - we finally got on the road by 3PM. By that time, it was snowing, but not badly. We got to the Middleboro, MA KOA campground at 10PM or so - easy site to get in, and we were glad to be there. Before we left the house, Richard had cut down the Christmas tree he had selected for the Mendes, and we got it all bagged and up on the car for the trip down. It was a beautiful tree. Patsy and Joe and the kids (Kyle and Brynn) sent pictures showing the tree all decorated - it looked GREAT, as Kyle would say. Inaddition to having the driveway rebuilt (not a small job, since the driveway is about 1/4 mile long), Richard also built a wonderful deck across the front of the house (overlooking King Mtn.), and we had a 3-season room put on just before we left (so we can enjoy the view without being eaten by the 3-seasons worth of biting insects). We also bought a Kubota tractor with lots of attachments (hydraulic chipper, brush hog, backhoe, etc.), and a wonderful Kubota RTV.
