Natasja, Urko and Milagro after a few drinks!

Time to get away from the mayhem of Salvador for a bit. 7 hours west by bus is the National Park of Chapada Diamantina. The nearest town is Lençoís, lots of cobbled streets and colonial buildings.... The attraction of the area is that you can get away from it all on overnight, 2, 3 days treks in the National Park. The weather was a bit dodgy and I didn't fancy getting my clothes wet and not be able to dry them, so me, Natasja and Urko opted for a one day van based tour of the local area.

It was good, reminded me a lot of Canaima Natioanl Park in Venezuela with the flat toppped mountains sticking out of a flat landscape. Part of the trip also visited some caves to see stalactites and stalagmites in massive underground caverns stretching for more than 20 kms, for once it lived up to the legendary status given to it by brazilians. Pictures to follow.

A very important thing to have here is your own hammock....top stuff!
