The day started out with an early Pilot's meeting and the valley socked in with fog. As the fellows came back from the Pilot's meeting, they saw a fox by the grocery store looking for breakfast! We were on a weather hold until about 10:30 pm when the skies cleared and the sun came out for a beautiful afternoon!
It was also a very auspicious occasion! One of our crew members, Eske Carter, turned 13 years old today! We inflated the balloon and Patrick Carter took his two sons for their first Switzerland balloon flight. It was a great flight around the valley with a perfect landing back on the launch field!
We have heard rumblings of a tubing sled competition at the launch field and something about a trophy for best technique but we will hear more about that tomorrow. Al made a great dinner of palette eu boeuf aug legumes (pot roast with vegetables). Silas and Gina made two beautiful berry pies for Eske's birthday but we were so taken with Barbara's blessing for Eske's "Balloon mitzvah" (13th year of ballooning) that the kitchen filled with smoke and our resident volunteer fireman had to come to the rescue (actually Gina and Silas did a great job of saving the pies which were delicious). We toasted Eske with some champagne from our old dear ballooning friend Dr.Henry McDonald's vineyard.
Tomorrow is forecast for rain all day but they have been wrong in the past (like today, dah!) so we are hoping for another day to fly.
