Danny and Anna's Round The World Trip 2005 travel blog

Dali centre

East Gate

After a short bus ride we arrived in Old Dali, our base for the next few days. We headed over to a GH we had been recommended and spent most of the afternoon reading the end of our books before book swap time. Anna seemed to be very excited about this which seemed a bit odd but if it makes her happy then I'm all for it.

We had a quick stroll around the ancient walled town and saw some impressive gate towers which have survived since the town was built. It seems like a busy place with plenty of action going on. Markets, street sellers, food joints are all around and give the place a certain buzz even if it is slightly crowded. A week long festival here starting today probably doesn't help the people problem but is likely to make the town more appealing over the next few days. The town has a fantastic mountain backdrop and the weather is great, sunny but not too hot. The people seem friendly and the local minorities groups add a dash of colour.

We grabbed some food from a cheap restaurant and it was so good we intend on going back at least once. The owners were really friendly, the food was really tasty and we got endless cups of green tea which we are still loving. The more the better we say.
