At Home again, in Llano Grande
Nov 23, 2008
|This morning we were awake at 4:00 AM and were out of bed having coffee by 4:30. Marilyn had decided to prepare our coffee maker the night before, so she ground the beans, put them in the fresh filter and put the water in the correct place. The only thing she did not want to do was to turn it on. Guess what? Yep, she turned it on! The coffee was still warm but there was less than three cups available. The rest, usually about 5 cups total, had mysteriously disappeared.
We heated the lukewarm coffee in the microwave and enjoyed one cup each. Time to get started.
Marilyn fixed a couple of sandwiches and took a can of mixed nuts and some water for our trip.
We were hooked up and ready to leave by 6:40 AM, and pulled out onto I-10 at 6:45 AM. Fifteen minutes ahead of schedule.
It sprinkled rain on us as we highballed through Houston, and we didn’t stop until we reached Victoria about 10:00 AM.
We fueled the trucks and picked up some McDonalds iced coffee to hold us for the remainder of the trip.
We were back on the road by 10:25 and didn’t stop this time until we pulled in at Llano Grande at 2:00 PM.
Gordon & Juanita had called us a couple of times during the day. They had been in Kerrville, TX and were also going to Llano Grande for the winter. In fact, they are right next door to us, so we communicate frequently.
When we pulled off of I-83 to make the left turn and go about two miles down the road to Llano, guess who was waiting at the stop sign in front of us! It was Gordon & Juanita. Since Carl & Linda were right behind us, we all arrived at the same time. Gordon parked his rig and jumped out real quick to snap a picture of Marilyn & I arriving. Neat!!
The temperature here was 79 degrees when we arrived and we are now pretty well set up, with fresh showers, clean clothing and the A/C running. Sorry to all you folks back in “Cold” country!
I will get this posted for you today and will get around to posting pictures sometime soon.
By the way, we drove 422 miles today and got 9.9 mpg fighting a bit of a headwind. It was a tiring day and I sure wouldn’t want to do it very often, but we are so glad to be here.
We look forward to a good night of rest with no certain time to be up tomorrow.
Wow, I just can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store.....
