Up above Ardadia, at an inlet to the Peace River, is a place called Nav-a-gator that is a restaurant, with a museum, a tiki bar, and a business that offers boat rides to see what's on the river. 10 of us went up to have lunch and then enjoy a boat ride on a pontoon for an hour and a half to see birds and gators and whatever. It poured while we were eating lunch, but stopped for our ride - how convenient!

This place is eclectic but very interesting. The food is great and plentiful. The captain of the boat is very knowledgeable and personable. The birds are roosting in the mangroves at this time of year, so we saw lots of wood storks and egrets and a few roseate spoonbills and herons. We saw a few gators of different sizes and they are getting ready to mate.

This was a great way to end my stay at Carefree for the season. I will start heading north to my summer "residence" tomorrow.
