Yesterday a “cold front” blew in; it’s the back side of Tropical Storm Lee. It has brought us a little relief from the oppressive heat. Last night I had to sleep under light covers and this morning it was down to about 60 degrees. Very nice! The forecast is for the high temperatures to return tomorrow.
The major downside to this change is that the wind has fanned the flames of the wildfires, making it much more difficult to control them. Our fire-fighting resources are stretched to the limit. There are more than 50 fires burning across Texas, twenty-three of them in Central Texas. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed and many others heavily damaged. Thousands of people are now homeless. Since last December 3.5 million acres in the state have burned. We are in a crisis situation.
