Moving Right Along With Daisy 2017 travel blog

Today I met Jeff and Karla Moyer at a weekly discussion group at the German Texas Heritage Society (TGS). TGS was founded September 6, 1983, in Harris County. Its purpose is to preserve and encourage the German heritage, culture and language of German-Texans and to continue these through communication, exchange and good will with their fellow German-Americans and German people in other lands. The local chapter meets once a week in the German Free School building (founded 1858) and they sit around a large table eating lunch and just talking about all kinds of topics. Several of the people are originally from Germany. It has been so long since I studied German that I understood very little of the conversation.

After the meeting, Jeff, Karla, Heidi and I went to the Easy Tiger restaurant on East 6th Street for lunch. Heidi is from Germany but has been living in Austin for about twenty years. She hasn’t lost all her accent, though.
