The Scenic Nantahala River4 October - I enjoyed a very scenic drive today and made a number of stops along the Nantahala River at various put-in/take out points. For y’all that don’t know, a put-in/take out point is a location along the river designated for placing/removing small water craft into/from the river (upon seeing the first take-out here sign, my initial thought was a fast food take-out joint but I couldn’t find the drive-up window to place an order). The Nantahala River ranks among the most popular whitewater rafting spots in the country and the US Olympic Kayaking Team sometimes trains here. I spent a few hours hiking in and around the one-mile Olympic course area where the whitewater slalom events were held during the 1996 Summer Olympics. It rained pretty much the whole time I was there but I still very much enjoyed the area. I am now parked in the rain at the WalMart in Ooltewah, Tennessee, just north of Chattanooga, for the night.
5 October - Decided to stay another day here to do some walking and caching but mostly to just goof off.
