Our next stop on our 28 mile tour of the Petrified National Park and Painted Desert was the Puerco Pueblo Village. A partially stabilized 100 room village built between 1250 and 1380. This village may have housed as many as 200 people. We walked a short paved area though the site and stopped at wayside exhibits.
We were very surprised to see a lot of awesome petroglyphs in the village too. One showed a rock that was used to tell the time. It had petroglyphs all over it in the shape of feet. I loved the one that had a bird with what looked like a frog in his mouth. They say that some people interrupt it as a bird with a baby or human in the mouth, but it looks more like a frog to me. The whole place reminded us of our visit to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. You sure do get a lot for your money when you visit this incredible park.
Our next stop will be the Route 66 Exhibit, check back later for more from our awesome visit to the Petrified National Park and Painted Desert.
