We left Thousand Trails on March 6th and moved out to Boulder Campground on Lake Mead. What a difference! Instead of looking at the back of someone else's RV, we have a much different view now.

We also have much more room for Madison to run and hummingbirds at the feeder

This was our first sunrise

. The mountains to our right enclose the Hoover Dam area

We drove out to the Dam on Thursday, the 8th and saw it again.

No matter how many times you see it, it is still amazing

You can see how low the lake it from the white along the edges of Lake Mead. I've always see that white edge, but never quite so much of it.

Looking straight down is always a thrill
They have a new sculpture (since we were last here many years ago)called The Scaler

which really depicts in great detail how the workers on the dam had to suspend themselve to work

They are now building a new crossover which will direct through traffic in front of the dam instead of over it. Right now, truck and buses are not allowed over the dam - only recently did they lift their ban on RV's. The road they're building straightens out a lot of the curves in the current road, but look at how high the span over the Colorado is going to be

I don't know that I want to drive over that! Especially not pulling a 30 ft trailer!
We drove into town to pick up our Spamalot tickets and to see some of the other casinos on the strip we had not yet visited. The Wynn where Spamalot is playing is beautifully decorated on the outside with waterfalls

and large evergreen trees which look as if they have been growing there for years, although the Wynn is only a couple of years old. We also went over to The Venetian which is always one of my favorites with the large piazza

and the Gondola rides

One of our favorite shows - Blue Man Group - has moved there from the Luxor and no, that is not the real guys, but wax figures that I am standing with

If anyone wants to see a great show, Blue Man is the best one in town.
We saw the Vegas version of Spamalot which means it was cut to 90 minutes and run without an intermission (can't keep people out of the casino too long, you know) and it was still hysterical. Anyone who knows Monty Python will have a ball at this, and even if you don't, it is really funny. I recognized a couple of cuts since I have the Broadway cast CD, but not enough to really matter. I would like to see the long version though.
Some of our '06 class of fulltimers that we met in Quartzsite came in to Boulder Campground and none of them had ever been to Vegas before, so we organized a whirlwind tour on Wednesday. We started at the far end of the strip - here we all are at the Luxor

. We took in everything from Mandalay Bay to Caesar's palace and by that time, our collective feet were saying they were "mad as hell and weren't going to take it anymore."
On Thursday evening, we took in the Fremont Street Experience downtown

Saw a couple of the light shows and all of us took advantage of the $10 freeplay offered at the Golden Nugget. We have truly enjoyed being here at Lake Mead, but will leave Sunday for sunny California!
