This afternoon we had a special treat – a cheese-tasting party. Margaret Bouschon, a volunteer who had come here every November for several years, was unable to be with us this year. She always hosted a “Cheese Extravaganza” for us. Since she couldn’t be with us in person this time, she mailed us a box of cheeses – 27 varieties! She even included information concerning which crackers, olives, etc., were to be served with which cheeses.
We were given a list of the cheeses in the order in which they were to be served. They were divided into seven groups. As each group of cheeses was being served by staff members, volunteer Maureen Asper commented on the sources, production methods and other interesting facts about the cheeses.
In the past, the cheeses were laid out on nicely decorated tables and we served ourselves. Now that COVID-19 has reared its ugly head, we couldn’t do it that way.
