|On Saturday, we took a bus from the campground in Whitehorse south to Fraser, BC with a stop in Carcross at the head of Bennett Lake. This is where the gold seekers of 1898 that came up the Chilcoot Pass had to build their boats/rafts and make their way up the Yukon River to Dawson City, a treacherous journey, only to find almost of the good claims were already taken. Then on to Fraser to catch the White Pass and Yukon railroad down the pass to Skagway. It drops about 3,000' in about 27 miles. It is a beautiful ride down to the port city of Skagway, Alaska. Skagway is a pretty town on an inlet. Cruise ships dock right at the end of Main Street but luckily none were in town. We had a couple of hours to shop before we met our bus for the 150 mile or so trip back to Whitehorse. That turned out to be an adventure in itself. The bus apparently blew a head gasket and the driver had to keep adding antifreeze on the way back. Tomorrow we leave Whitehorse for Cammacks, Yukon on the way to Dawson City.
