Palo Duro Canyon

Big Texan Steak Ranch

If you knew the second largest canyon in the USA was in Texas just south of Amarillo, raise your hand. I am guessing there are not a lot of hands raised. We didn’t, so we went to check it out. It’s no where the grandeur of that other canyon but still impressive. It’s roughly 120 miles long and has an average width of 6 miles but reaches 20 miles in some places and 880 ft deep. We took the drive down to the bottom where we took a 3 mile hike on the Lighthouse trail. It was very scenic and beautiful.

After a fun day of hiking and sightseeing in the canyon we were hungry and thirsty so we headed to the Big Texan Steak Ranch, a true tourist trap𯘄. We were pleasantly surprised by the service and food of a place so large! Janice had the beef tips. They were great!! I had a ribeye. It was good but I have had better. The beer was cold and the margaritas sweet and tangy.

Janice corrected me about being hungry and thirsty. We were also very tired... we hit sack early for our trip to Albuquerque the next morning.
