The initial feeling as we left the Krilo Star at the Split Port was unfavourable. It seemed like an unsavoury mix of dirty seaside fast food joints and souvenir booths with the people to match as we walked along the Riva towards our next BnB. This changed the following day when we ventured just 200 metres to the Centar and Riva on the seas to see the Roman architecture and hear the stories from the Dioletecian Palace that was built in10 years by 6,000 workers.

But first we had to find the BnB which looked simple enough. Against the wishes of MW to catch a taxi I refused to pay his exorbitant price for a 600 metre distance. My error was first to set Google maps to 'Walk" and secondly to take seriously the clear warning on the Google map itself that the data was unreliable. So we arrived an hour late and our poor hosts had tried in vain to telephone us. To be continued
