Route around the islands

Up at 6.30am to go sailing took the '10 min' walk (more like 30 min) to the harbour where we boarded the Alexander Stuart Tall Ship - loads of couples on the trip which meant we had a good group to get on with whilst away for the 3 days.

We headed to Hook Island, the second largest of the Whitsundays with some of the best diving/snorkelling but as we anchored for a snorkel dark clouds appeared as a storm loomed ahead. We set sail for cover from the tropical storm but moved into the centre of it - crew got us to a cove where we anchored up for the night. Storm was a bit hairy but with everyone down below we all had chance to get to know each other which helped the atmosphere of the trip overall.

Helen disappeared to the cabin with a mouth full of kwells in the hope of surviving the storm without throwing up.

Storm passed to leave a beautiful sunset in the evening and we all sat on with a few beers watching the sun disappear.

Second day was stunning - spent the morning at Whitehaven beach - voted the best beach in the world. Sand was so fine and white it blinded you.

Snorkelled together in the afternoon and it was as good as the snorkel on the outer reef.

The stinger suits you have to wear to protect you against jellyfish are particularly attractive!

Anchored up for the night to another amazing sunset, it was also Lisa's birthday and the eve of Helen's birthday so we all had a good drink, played cards loudly until the crew came and complained we were keeping them up - it was only 11pm!! Lightweights!

Third day (Helen's birthday - got to feed big Batfish off the boat) snorkelled again in the morning near the Hayman Islands (a rich getaway for the stars - Helen thinks she saw Brad Pitt - only in her dreams!!) and it was the best snorkelling we have done - amazing amount of fish. Went to Langford Island after that for another snorkel although the girls on the trip just went to the beach to catch some rays. We were being transferred from Langford Island back to the boat by motor boat. Paul kindly helped the girls into the boat only to get a face full of Lisa's bum as she fell back out of the boat on top of him!

Crew put the sails out for the trip home to Airlie beach. Being Helen's birthday we treated ourselves to a meal at a good restaurant meal and a bottle of bubbly - lovely jubbly! A jug of beer outside another restaurant that shut up shop and let us sit outside on the beach front for as long as it took to finish which took us to the end of a perfect day.

Spent the next day lazing around the lagoon at Airlie beach waiting for the night bus to take us on to see Steve Shuttleworth (A chap Paul trained up with back in the early days of his Bp training) and his family who kindly offered to let us stay with them.
