This is our last update from our tour of the Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert. We hope you enjoyed the tour as much as we did. I could have put all of this into one quick update, but I felt this park deserved much more of my time than one fast and easy update.
One important note, they do have a gate at the end of the tour where they can actually check your car for petrified wood etc. There are gift shops “outside” the entrance to the park that sells some as gifts. If you were caught with them in the car, you will have to pay a fee of over $300. They did stop our car, but waved us on our way. Some cars were actually being checked, so be very careful about buying items from the gift shops outside of the park.
Our last stop on the tour was the visitors center at the other end of the 28 miles. We met a couple of volunteers that made our day. We were talking to them about our tour of the park and told them we are traveling by RV. That we have been on the road for over six years and are still loving it. The sweet lady we met told us they have been traveling by RV for more than 14 years. Wow! They also told us about all the special places we should not miss around Show Low and nearby. We have a list of places to visit next and it was much appreciated. You never know who you will meet on the road, I could have talked to them for hours. :-) It was a perfect end to a perfect tour.
This is the end of our tour of the wonderful Petrified Forest National Park and Painted Desert. Check back later for more from Arizona.
