Beautiful roads

Loved the shiny rocks - they contain mica

Custer has painted buffalos along the streets.

Our wonderful hosts, Pat and Mike and their kitty, Ms. Megabyte.

We finally packed up about noon as we had less than 70 miles to go. We invited ourselves to stop at Pat and Mike McFall's "Cabin in the Hills" near Custer.

We had a slight problem in that when Ron went to empty the black tank,it wouldn't drain. We were parked at a slight tilt and we think the liquid was tilted away from the drain. We are hoping that adding more water and moving will wash out the plug. It isn't a big problem - just a minor glitch when your house travels down the road with you.

The ride down was beautiful and we arrived around 2. After a tour of their cabin, we sat outside and visited. Pat had made some of her wonderful taco soup and we had that after happy hour. By that time we were pretty much talked out - altho we found that we have many friends and acquaintances in common. Pat and Mike were headed to Rapid City early in the morning so we told them we would see them in AZ and turned in for the night.

This morning, we have a beautiful peach sunrise over the Black Hills of SD. Our friends' place is on a hill just outside of Custer, located in the middle of the Hills. There are small mountains all around us. Some are covered with the dark green pines that give the Black Hills their name, while other are beautiful white quartz and gray granite that reflect back the colors of the sunrise. It is so peaceful here that deer come to graze on their lawn. We really hate to leave.

But in an hour or two we will be on the road. Our goal today is the Nebraska/Colorado border. I have a small campground picked out and will give them a call later today as we get closer to make sure they have room. I think we will stay there two nights - but you never know. If we aren't tired, we may travel again in the morning.
