Several friends and I were scheduled to attend the first Bach concert of the new season at the Blanton Museum of Art at noon today. Alas! Our plans were foiled.
A gunman with an AK-47 had entered the Perry-Castaneda Library on the University of Texas campus. He fired several shots on the sixth floor and then shot himself. No one else has been reported injured. Officials put the campus on lock-down until further notice. That meant that the staff and students who were to have presented the Bach concert were not allowed to go to the Blanton Museum. As a result, the concert had to be canceled. I hope they will re-schedule it.
On a more positive note, our weather the last couple of days has been wonderful! Early-morning temperatures have been in the 50s and the highs only in the low 80s. It is so nice not to have to run the air conditioner so much.
