St Margaret's Chapel in Edinburgh Castle

This morning we took the bus to town and did the Open Top bus tour of Edinburgh. Going around the circuit once, we then got off at Edinburgh Castle - scene of the famous Military Tattoo in August. Already they are putting up the scaffolding although we believe there are to be some pop concerts there prior to the Tattoo.

Holyrood House was closed this week so we were unable to visit that, so we walked down the Royal Mile and had a look at the shops as we went.

Leaving Edinburgh in the afternoon we high-tailed it to Aberdeen as we had been told that the "Northern Lights" were spectacular this time of year. We arrived Aberdeen in time for sunset but no Northern Lights to be seen. And in fact it was difficult to find accommodation as the men from the oilrigs had all come to town for a night out and everything was full, everything that is except one room in a Hotel, which we grabbed.

We were so late arriving that the restaurant had finished cooking and all we could have was soup and toasted sandwiches.
