Today I drove from Ingram to Graham to visit cousin Bill Stafford and his wife, Lillie. It was nearly five o’clock by the time I arrived. Along highway 16 in the area near Possum Kingdom Lake I saw some of the aftermath of the recent wild fires. The smell of ashes was very strong. It made me feel sad to see such destruction.
This morning Bill had to work until 1:00. He has never fully retired; he works at the United Supermarket mornings Monday through Friday. Lillie and I stopped by to see him. She bought a few groceries and I got three jars of pickles to share at my upcoming Lazy Dazers rally.
Lillie had a doctor’s appointment at 3:00. While she was there Bill and I went to a thrift store. I found a cute little teddy bear, marked $1.00. Just making conversation, I mentioned to the clerk that my Cen-Tex RV club collects toys to give to a battered women’s and children’s shelter. She sold the bear to me for 55 cents! Then we went to a gift shop, where I found a cute plaque to give to Bill and Lillie.
I really enjoyed visiting with them. It had been about six years since we’d seen each other, so we had a lot of catching up to do. I didn’t get to see their children and grandchildren this time.
