After lunch at Shady Grove, Dianne, Ginger, Inge, Virginia and I went to the Zilker Botanical Garden, just down the street. The afternoon temperature was still very pleasant. The gardens are beautiful any time of year; I always enjoy my visits there. (www.zilkergarden.org)
The garden is located on 30 acres. It is a unique collaboration between The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and the Austin Area Garden Council (AAGC). Theme gardens such as rose, herb and Japanese garden are interconnected with streams, waterfalls and Koi-filled ponds. The Hartman Prehistoric Garden recreates local dinosaur habitat.
After our walk, we discovered that a tree-trimming crew's truck was blocking the normal exit path so we decided to visit the Herb Garden to wait for it to move. It was very pleasant there and we had a chance to just relax for a little while.
Our last stop of the day was at Flipnotics for refreshments. It has been a wonderful day.
