We drove the incredible Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park today. It was a “WOWSER” drive for sure. We saw six moose and several herds of elk, deer were walking all across the roads, it was amazing.
There is still a lot of snow on the ground in the higher elevations. The Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States. The route climbs from 7,800 feet to more than 12,000 feet at its highest point. It passes through a variety of habitat, from mountain meadows and woodlands to well above treeline into the alpine tundra.
You can turn around at the Alpine Visitor Center or transform the scenic drive into a day-long road trip to Estes Park and back. The road travels through the heart of Rocky Mountain National Park passing breathtaking scenery that makes you want to pull over at every opportunity to take pictures. I took over 600 in one drive. :-) I am going to have to add most pictures later when I have better Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi is in and out here, it works great for a few hours then goes out for hours. I will add a few now and more when it’s working better. Check back later for more from Rocky Mountain National Park and Colorado.
