It was up early to pick up Bruce and Dee Dee from their hotel at 5 AM then off to Rockwood where we met Terri, Tyler & Julia. Tyler loaded up all four bikes in Grandma`s truck along with all the other gear we have and a bunch of goodies from Grandma and off we went to meet rejoin the group in Tottenham by 7AM. Thanks Ty for getting us there in good time and an early departure for what turned out to be an eventful day.
It was a good day for a ride and while there were lots of hills as we cleared the escarpment the day was nice and we did not have to hurry. As we approached Port Perry I heard a loud bang but thought it was a rock coming off a wheel. No such luck for as we just got through Port Perry I felt the back wheel start to wobble and the brakes catch. A spoke had broken and this is big trouble as the wheels I have are high tech and I don`t carry replacement spokes. Fortunately we were on 7A highway right at a bakery where I was to spend the next 5 hours. Terri was on duty cooking so she road on to camp, about 20 k down the road and I started making phone calls. Long story short I was lucky to have a dear friend relatively close by (well not that close but sure glad she was there). Nancy offered to drive to Peterborough to pick up a spoke which the bike shop said they had. Then Nancy and her good friend Amber drove them to me and we loaded the bike in the back of Ambers SUV and headed for camp. Well the spokes were the wrong ones so we loaded the bike and some cloths for me and headed for Peterborough. After a great visit with the ladies at the Holiday Inn I had a reasonable sleep.
