Fish frenzy

We packed up and left Quartzsite this morning. There were only five rigs of the 2006 class left besides us. Most everyone was leaving in the next couple of days. We said goodbye to all our new friends and then got in the dump line. Luckily for us, the dump line has gotten much smaller since the big RV show finished. We were only the fifth rig in line. I have seen it with over 20 rigs in line during the show time.

This picture is one of the restaurants in Quartzsite. We tried to eat lunch there, but the kitchen didn't open until 3 p.m. We couldn't resist a picture of the front however.

Really makes you hungry, doesn't it?

It was an easy and interesting drive to Laughlin. We saw some great mountain ranges - very craggy. We stopped in Needles for lunch. I used to always hate Needles when I was a kid, but it was mostly because we were traveling during the summer and Needles was always about

250 degrees F.

On our way into Laughlin, we passed the super Walmart in Bullhead City, so we decided to stock up on provisions since this was the first REAL store we had been in for a couple of weeks. We also decided to get Jeff's birthday present (and an early one for me). We bought a couple of bicycles that we had tried out while we were in Quartzsite. Our friends John and Maureen had them. We really liked them and they said they had gotten them at Walmart. So two bicycles and two "fat butt" seats (as Jeff calls them) later, we headed on in to Laughlin.

We checked into the Riverside Casino RV park. This is the view that we had from our campsite.

We had picked up a coupon at the Quartzsite show good for buy two nights, get one free and also included a breakfast and dinner buffet. I called my Aunt Kaki who is staying across the river in Bullhead City, and she came over to the park and we had a good time seeing her again after more than a year.

On Jeff's birthday, we took advantage of our free buffets for breakfast and dinner. We also put enough points on our card to win a free prime rib dinner. We had a great time.

Kaki called us the next morning and we went to the Avi casino for their $.99 breakfast. The food was pretty good, but had probably the worst service ever!. The girl forgot to bring out drinks until our dinner. Then when we asked (had to ask) for more coffee, she forgot that too! If she needs her tips to live on, she needs to get another job!

We went to another couple of casinos picking up whatever coupon freebies they offered (Boy, we're cheap!) Then we all went for the prime rib dinner. It was pretty good (especially for free). We had a good time afterward playing the penny slots.

We loaded up on Friday and moved over to Kaki's RV place where we're staying as guests for 3 days. We then drove out to Katherine's Landing - part of the Lake Mead National Recreation area and where we intend to go next. We just love it. Beautiful scenery and although it is boondocking - the water and dump are very close with no lines like Quartzsite. Kaki had brought some stale bread to feed the ducks, but the fish were the marvel. They crowded in so close trying to get the bread that the ducks would literally walk on the fish.

We drove through the campground loop and saw a very tame roadrunner.

No coyote in sight though. The lake is full of houseboats - most in slips like these

Houseboats

. You can even rent a houseboat. Madison was ecstatic to be so close to the water. She knew for a certainty that we were going to let her in. . However, not wanting to haul wet dog back to Bullhead City, we demurred. This is a really nice place, and we are glad we found it. We do not how long we might stay there - the limit is 30 days - so who knows?

We went to the Aquarius breakfast buffet to meet some of Kaki's friends

and played some slots as well. I've been doing pretty good so far - losing money, of course, but not too much and not too fast, which is ok with me. As Jeff says, if we wanted to make money, we'd get a job!

On Sunday, we had the $3.49 GIANT ham steak and eggs breakfast at the Colorado Belle. They weren't kidding about giant - the ham covered the entire plate! They had to put the eggs and hash browns on top of the ham. We brought half of it home. It was laundry and provision day - so Walmart after breakfast and then the laundromat where the dryers refused to dry our clothes without numerous quarters - they must have been slot machines in an earlier life.

One more buffet - the last for a while - and one more evening of slot playing til our money run out, then on to Katherine's landing. We've got to save some more money and calories before we hit Vegas
