Its 35mph on the reservation—strictly enforced

How you do not want your RV to arrive for service

Wed, 24 Aug: Back on the road—a short bit anyway...

Today was another road day, albeit a short (65 mile) one. We have the coach scheduled in for her annual chassis service and we needed to move her from Casa Grande to the Freightliner service facility in Tolleson. Tolleson is a "burb" of Phoenix located on the west side where Loop 101 west intersects with Interstate 10.

The chassis annual service is an important part of our maintenance schedule and we do our best to keep to it. Freightliner publishes a service schedule that includes the usual (oil change, filter change, lubrication, and so forth) as well as the not-so-usual (air dryer filter change, check airbag ride hight). We expect this service to take two days as we're also having the alignment checked.

Bob pulled out of our leased lot at RoVer's Roost and we got the car connected and checked. Wheels rolling at 0950 as we drove thru Casa Grande to I 10 westbound. South of Phoenix we left the interstate for local roads that took us south of town to the west side and then north. Our route included a section thru the Komatke Indian Reservation, which posts a strictly enforced 35 mph speed limit. Bob took us thru at 32 mph just to make a point.

Once north of the reservation we continued north on 51st street, then west on Broadway to 99th, and north a few miles to Freightliner of Tolleson. We pulled into their very nice courtesy RV parking area at 1110, disconnected the car, and backed into a 50 ampere site. Since it was already in excess of 95°F our first priority was plugging in and getting the AC units going. Today's fuel economy was 7½ mpg.

Once parked and set up we took our paperwork into the service advisor's area and said hello to our good friend Kirk Ault. Kirk is a "good guy" and knows his RV chassis. We got set up for first thing tomorrow morning (0700)! We then hopped in Carpe Dinkum and drove a few miles north on 99th to Costco where we enjoyed their excellent pizza and did some shopping. Of course we had to visit with the 53" and 93" plush Teddy Bears...

Then back to the coach to "veg" for the afternoon enjoying the AC. Dinner was a Costco rotisserie chicken followed by fresh fruit from Costco. We showered and were in bed by ten since that alarm was going to go off at "dark o'clock" tomorrow morning...

More anon.
