Ojibway Casino

Sun, 09 Aug: East of Marquette Michigan

Today's drive was an easy 84 miles from a casino east of Manistique to a casino east of Marquette. The difference is that the first casino was near the Lake Michigan shore while our present location is near the Lake Superior shore. In short, we moved from the southern shore of the Upper Peninsula to the northern shore.

We got things ready and rolled our wheels a bit after 0830. Sandi was at the helm and headed west on US 2 to Manistique where we took Michigan 94 north thru town and then north. It was a beautiful drive along a virtually deserted and well-maintained two lane state route.

East of Munising we intersected with M 28, which we took west toward Munising. We'd stayed near Munising for several days in '09 and had a great time. This time we drove thru town and continued west on M 28 toward Marquette. M 28 skirts the Lake Superior shoreline for several miles and the views of the lake are, well, Superior!

About five miles east of Marquette we stopped at the Ojibway Casino, where they offer free RV sites with 50 amp power. In addition, when you register you get a $15 play card and a free drink ticket. Sweet! Today's drive was 84 miles with a fuel economy of 8 mpg.

We'll probably spend a few days here and try to do some sightseeing. Then we'll continue west into Wisconsin where we plan to stay on US 2 as it skirts the lakeshore.
