We left Mesa Wednesday morning and drove the nice drive into the Quartzsite area. As we topped the hill a few miles away, Jeff looked at all the dots of white ahead of us and remarked, "That's not snow!" Thousands of RV's dotted the landscape ahead of us.

We finally arrived in Quartzsite proper after marveling at the RV's everywhere and found our class of 2006 site although it took a little bit. We got to La Posa South Long term visitor's area okay, found some of the signs that had been left for us to follow, but when we headed for the Big Red Volvo truck that we thought belonged to ScubaDave, it was somebody else's big red truck. We sat out there on the desert for little bit trying to figure out where everyone could be. Eventually we started our search over and found the site. Four rigs were there already, but no one was home.
The desert scenery is quite nice. Much better than one might suppose when you conjur up the standard desert mental images. Someone has put a Q with a face on one of the mountains facing the interstate.

But the Honda generator was the main key to whether we would be able to stay out here for any length of time.

The four other rigs came back and we met two new couples and two which we had already met on our travels. The next few days, we had new arrivals almost every day.
Jeff and I drove into the town to check out Quartzsite. Not much to talk about - a few stores, gas stations, restuarants, but mostly RV's everywhere. The big tent show was to begin on Saturday and the town and all of the lands were filling to the brim with RVer's.
We drove into Blythe, California on Monday to check our mail and pick up some groceries at the Albertson there. Gas on the outskirts of Quartzsite was $2.19 a gal. As soon as we crossed the California border, the first gas station was $2.99 a gal. Don't think we want to spend a lot of driving in California right now.
The weather has been weird for the desert. It rained on the Friday after we got here and cold winds during the day on Sunday kept everyone in their RV's. But, the weather seems to have taken a turn for the better now and although it gets chilly when the sun goes down, the days are really nice - actually wearing shorts and lying out in the sun during the day.
