We left Hope today for Kenai Elks Lodge in Kenai. Just a 102.6 mile trip in 2 hours.
We saw many old burn areas, and some areas of very brown dry trees dead from bark beetle. There is an active fire on the Kenai Peninsula somewhere near Cooper's Landing but the highway was open to travelers although very smoky.
As we passed through the community of Cooper's Landing we saw that it was very smoky but it was not hurting the tourism and fishing in the area.
As we took the Kenai turnoff, we crossed over the Kenai River as it flowed to the mouth of the river. There is a boardwalk here where you can view the seabirds in the marshy grasses.
We all arrived at the Kenai Elks Lodge to find only two spots available. Ron & Tina dry camped in the parking lot tonight to see if anyone would leave tomorrow. They were also looking for a campground down by Homer with full hook ups, as their rig needs better electric than we have here at the Elks Lodge.
